Queenstown Supermarkets

Queenstown has a wide range of supermarkets and grocery stores, ensuring all your self-catering holiday needs are met.

When going on holiday to a new destination, it always helps to know where the local grocery stores and supermarkets are located.

So to take the trouble out of finding that out for yourself, we thought we would offer some useful advice on where to buy groceries and alcohol in Queenstown, New Zealand.

Queenstown has three supermarkets – there are two in downtown Queenstown and one near the airport in Frankton, and their opening hours are from around 7am-7pm.

Alpine Supermarket is a small store in the heart of Queenstown and is great for picking up a few things on the go while you’re walking around town. If you’re staying at LakeRidge Condos this is an ideal option as it’s the closest supermarket to your apartment. It’s easy to walk to via a pleasant five-minute walk along the lakefront.

Also in central Queenstown are the Night ‘n Day Foodstores on Shotover Street and Camp Street – these are open 24 hours a day and stock basic grocery items, as well as beer, wine and confectionery.

Fresh Choice is a larger supermarket if you’re staying in Queenstown for an extended period. It has everything you need and plenty of car parking. It’s a ten-minute walk from your LakeRidge Condo, but if you require a bigger shop it might be worth driving.

Slightly further afield is New World Wakatipu in Frankton. Located in the Remarkables Park shopping complex, it is a ten-minute drive from your LakeRidge Condo. It is the biggest supermarket in Queenstown with ample parking.

All supermarkets have regular specials on food, drink and other grocery items.

If you fancy yourself a bit of a foodie, or just love fine food you it would be worth paying a visit to the Raeward Mediterranean Market - located ten minutes walk from your Esplanade Queenstown on Gorge Road near central Queenstown. This food store stocks a fantastic array of local and international specialty products and locally grown fresh produce. The Mediterranean Market also has a deli and butchery counter, plus a small café area where you can sit and drink coffee and sample some of the gorgeous cakes and sweets.

If you’re looking for something extra special, why not head to the Remarkables Market. It’s a weekly market featuring products made by local artisans, organically-grown produce and other arts and crafts. The Remarkables Market is held at the Red Barn in the Remarkables Park Town Centre and is open Saturday’s 9am - 2pm from 25 October - 18 April.

There are also several liquor outlets in Queenstown. Betty’s Liquor has two stores in convenient locations on Cow Lane and Beach Street, plus another in Arrowtown. Henry’s Beer, Wine and Spirits is situated next to Alpine Supermarket on Shotover Street.

There are so many options for you to choose from – which is ideal when you stay in a luxury self-catered apartment. LakeRidge Condos properties all come with spacious, modern kitchens with a commercial oven and cooktop as well as plenty of bench space for cooking and entertaining in the privacy of your own apartment.

We love good food at Staysouth – so if you need a recommendation about the best place to buy your groceries while on holiday in Queenstown, we’d be happy to help you out.
